The Irving Fire Department staffs nine Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICU), with a minimum of two paramedics. The MICU staff provides treatment and transport for medical emergencies to hospitals in Irving and adjoining cities. All of the fire engines in the city are paramedic fire engines, meaning they are staffed with a minimum of one paramedic. Paramedic fire engines are supplied with all the tools necessary to provide initial emergency care to accident victims. The Irving Fire Department has 207 Paramedics and 86 EMT rated personnel. The EMS division is tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
Providing advanced and basic life support services for our citizens
Recording and compiling data generated by EMS incidents through patient care reports
Coordinating medical education and training
Meeting certification standards required by the state
Testing new and innovative products
Evaluating new procedures to stay on the cutting edge of pre-hospital delivery of patient care
The Irving Fire Department Property Room is located at Fire Administration and is operated by a Property Coordinator and a Property Technician. They supply the department with all necessary items to operate on a daily basis. Their duties include but are not limited to requisitioning, receiving, inventorying, stocking, and issuing EMS supplies and medications, fire station supplies, tools, uniforms, protective clothing and equipment for 360 personnel and eleven fire stations. They also prepare and develop specifications for bidding purposes and maintain inventory records.
