Applications for the 2017 Holiday Extravaganza Parade are now being accepted. Families, businesses, community organizations and neighborhoods are encouraged to enter a decorated vehicle, float or walking group. Registration is free, easy and can be completed online. Visit IrvingEvents.org to complete the online entry form or visit the form now. Applications are due by Saturday, Nov. 25. Participants are required to attend mandatory parade meeting 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28 in the Irving City Hall Council Chambers, 825 W. Irving Blvd.
The parade takes place at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, along Second Street and Irving Boulevard in downtown Irving. The theme for 2017 is "Christmas Movies and Soundtracks," and participants are encouraged to take the creative challenge to decorate floats and/or dress in costume, in order to bring to life a beloved holiday music theme or theatrical adaptation. Some traditional holiday movie favorites include “A Christmas Story,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “It's a Wonderful Life,” "Muppet Christmas Carol" and “Christmas Vacation.” Parade participants may illustrate characters in the movies or the overall theme of the movie. Some popular holiday songs include "White Christmas," "Frosty the Snowman," "Jingle Bell Rock" and "12 Days of Christmas." View the flier.
Parade participants can create a parade version of your favorite Christmas movies* or beloved holiday song. However, the City of Irving will feature the only Santa Claus character in the parade procession.
The annual parade is followed by a holiday stage show at Irving City Hall, featuring live music, free hot chocolate and a visit from Santa. The evening concludes around 6:30 p.m. with the lighting of the city holiday tree and a fireworks display. For more information about the event, call (972) 721-2501.
