Seniors for Seniors Research from social and medical sciences confirms that companion animals can, and do, improve health and happiness. A pet's companionship can be lifesaving. Companion animals offer the joy of unconditional love for all people, regardless of age, health, social or even economic status. Improve your overall health and well-being by adopting a senior companion animal free of charge from the Irving Animal Shelter. Why Adopt a Senior Pet? - Pets make great companions and help safeguard against depression, loneliness and boredom.
- Pet owners generally get more exercise and outdoor activity.
- Senior pets have fully developed personalities, and are calmer and ideally suited for senior citizens.
- Pet owners can enjoy more social support. Pets open opportunities for owners to brag about his/her companion.
- Pets can help enhance owner's moods and make him/her feel more safe and secure at home. Pet owners tend to make less visits to their doctors than those who are not pet owners.
