The Irving Heritage Society will host an ice cream social Sunday, May 7, on the front lawn of the Heritage House, 303 S. O’Connor Road, immediately following its 2 p.m. general meeting, which will include the election and installation of officers. A croquet set will be available for a round or two for those wishing to play.
Tours of the Heritage House and Mary’s Playhouse will be conducted from 3 to 5 p.m. Pieces of handwork by Thelma Coleman are expected to be available for purchase during the tours. The public is invited and admission is free.

Open to all females ages 10 and older living, working or visiting the DFW area, the focus of the RAD class is realistic self-defense techniques. The course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, and then progresses to the basics of hands-on self-defense training.
RAD is designed to engage participants in a series of hands-on, realistic, self-defense tactics and reinforce the power of the voice.
The course is taught by Irving police and detention officers who are nationally certified RAD instructors. RAD Instructor Krista King explains one main goal for the participants is learning to be vigilant.
A parent/legal guardian must be present the first day of class to sign waivers for participants under 18 years old, unless prior arrangements are made. Participants should bring their own snacks and drinks during the class. Space is limited. Walk-ins are not accepted; all participants must preregister.

Irving’s annual concert series showcases live music performances throughout the spring and early summer. Each year the series brings a variety of bands united by a common theme. Attendees spread lawn chairs and blankets in front of the stage and enjoy homemade picnics or food from the vendors on-site. Parking and admission are free to all shows. Limited covered seating is available, and attendees are encourage to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Restrooms are available on-site; smoking is prohibited. Parking and admission are free to all shows; all children must be supervised by an adult.
