Public Library
The Irving Public Library offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for people 14 years of age and older. Volunteers for the library provide essential support for the staff in many "behind-the-scenes" jobs. Opportunities include:
General Office Duties
Straightening shelves
Filing; reading microfiche
Covering books
Cutting Elisions dies
Helping prepare mailings
Various tasks in Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Genealogy & Technical Services
Literacy Tutors
The Irving library is an affiliate of ProLiteracy America. Volunteers are always needed for two adult programs: Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language.
Volunteers need no prior teaching experience. You must be 18 or older and will be required to complete an 18 hour training program. Volunteers are also asked to commit to serve as tutors in the library programs for a minimum of 6 months.
Friends of the Irving Public Library
Friends of the Irving Public Library is a non-profit support organization for the library. This organization sponsors occasional author events and an annual book sale, which is their main fundraiser. Members pay modest annual dues and may be as active as they choose. All of the money that is raised is used to improve the library’s services and supplement the annual budget in some way.
Those interested may contact Carla Morgan, Volunteer Coordinator, for further information at 972.721.2530.
