Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail, discusses The Maltese Falcon and other detective/mystery novels that teens love at "What's in Your Backpack?", the monthly teen book club meets October 10 at 4:30 p.m. Bring your favorite mystery with you!
Anime Club, features Detective Mysteries
The Anime Club will feature the anime detective series, Case Closed, during the monthly meeting on October 12 at 2 p.m. and the Anime Movie Night on October 23 at 7 p.m. The club is open to anime fans ages 14 and up. Both events occur at Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. Registration for the club is available during the event.
CSI vs. Reality
Teens will explore the careers of two real life crime scene investigators as TV crime scene investigation myths are exposed. Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail, will feature crime scene investigator Lori Lane on October 16 at 4:30 p.m. Southwest Branch, 2216 W. Shady Grove Rd.hosts Ron Singer on October 24 at 4 p.m.
Got Games?: Clue Tournament
Valley Ranch Library's "Got Games?" gaming club invites mystery-solving enthusiasts to test their skills in a tournament featuring the game Clue on October 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Teen Zine Writing Workshop
Central Library will explore with teens, grades 6 through 12, the similarities between pulp fiction and zine writing on October 18 at 2 p.m.
TeenScene Movie
The monthly movie screening for teens, grades six through 12, will feature a showing of the movie based on the classic board game, Clue, at Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd., on October 21 at 4:30 p.m.
Thin Man Marathon
Enjoy all six Thin Man movies on the big screen October 24 from noon to 10 p.m. at the Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd., over tasty mocktails. Bring your own lawn chair, blanket and picnic basket to settle in for hours of entertainment.
Solve the Mystery: Mystery Writing Workshop
David Morrell, award- winning author of First Blood (the first Rambo movie was based on this novel) and co-president of the International Thriller Writers organization, leads a mystery writing workshop for aspiring authors on October 25, 3 p.m. at Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd.
Edible Falcon Contest
A take off of the International Edible Book Festival, booklovers, cooks, and craftspeople of all ages are invited to participate in the Edible Falcon Contest. Contestants will manipulate cake batter, spam, chocolate, marshmallows, or other edible products into falcon statues. Contestants are asked to display their creations on October 26 at 1:30 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium, 801 W. Maltese Falcon Screenings
