Strong Codes Lead to Vibrant Neighborhoods

City staff continues to make improvements to Irving’s aesthetic appeal through the enforcement of stricter code guidelines for businesses and residential properties.

Improvements Continue
Over the past year, several code guidelines have been revised and new programs have been created to help address areas in Irving to foster a visually enhanced city. These efforts maintain the city’s physical appearance and ensure stable property values.

Issues Resolved
More than 11,000 code violations have been resolved since October when the Code Enforcement Department began reporting to the Irving Police Department, resulting in a quicker response to issues that require intervention.

Results Achieved
Strong ordinances and increased enforcement are producing results in one of the key goals of the city’s Strategic Plan—Nurture and Promote Vital, Vibrant Neighborhoods. The Code Enforcement Department has reported results in target areas, including:

  • Overflowing Dumpsters – Commercial properties and apartment complexes failing to maintain their trash dumpsters from overflowing garbage will be cited.
