Audit Yields Positive Results for Hunter Ferrell Landfill

The Hunter Ferrell Landfill in Irving received praise for its overall appearance and record-keeping practices during a recent audit conducted by the Lonestar Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America’s (Tx SWANA) Safety, Management and Resource Team (SMART).

“The Hunter Ferrell Landfill is now and has historically been a well-operated facility,” said Brenda Haney, solid waste services director. “This compliance review proves that. I’m honored to be professionally associated with this site and I take pride in working with the dedicated and hard-working staff at the landfill.”

The SMART Committee conducted the site visit to observe landfill operations and evaluate compliance with the landfill permit, landfill site operating plan and compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations.

The Hunter Ferrell Landfill, located at 220 W. Hunter Ferrell Road, was opened by the City of Irving 25 years ago and is open every day from 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Residents who provide a driver’s license and current water bill will not be charged for household waste transported in passenger cars, pickups with less than a one-ton rating, or in trailers less than 9 feet in length.
