Poster Contest Brings Awareness about People with Disabilities

Three Britain Elementary School fifth-grade students received recognition for their participation in a poster contest on disabilities awareness. The poster contest allows students to use their artistic talents to express how a person with disabilities can use their abilities to be a part of their community.

The contest winners are Irene Arreola, Brian Morin and Roberto Saenz. The Irving Advisory Committee on Disabilities has sponsored the annual poster contest since 2001. Examples of the posters include a blind person crossing a street or catching a DART bus, and children with a disability playing a sport with non-disabled children. All private and public schools in Irving were eligible to participate in the contest. Participants must be in the fifth or sixth grade, and may be home-schooled or attend a school in Irving.
