Housing and Human Services Announces New Affordable Housing in Irving
The Housing and Human Services Department, in partnership with the Irving Housing Finance Corporation (IHFC), has made several new affordable housing options available to qualifying residents interested in purchasing homes in Irving.
Last month, IHFC purchased a bank foreclosure on William Brewster Drive and will complete more than $50,000 in repairs to the home. Upgrades will include replacement of the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as cosmetic upgrades such as replacement of the front entry windows and doorway, and the placement of French doors in one of the bedrooms. New paint, carpet and flooring also will be included.
IHFC also began construction on two energy-efficient homes on Oak Lea Drive. These one-story houses are estimated to be completed in March and will provide many amenities.
In February, IHFC will begin construction of eight new homes at the corner of Balleywood and Oakdale roads. Six of the homes, selling for approximately $119,000 each, will be one story and will include three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a two-car garage. The remaining two homes, selling for approximately $150,000 each, will include four bedrooms with two-and-a-half baths and a two-car garage. These homes will be offered to residents who qualify for the city’s Homebuyer Development Program.
The Oakdale development will blend into the rustic nature of the neighborhood, with a mix of brick, stone and Hardie Board. These energy-efficient, universally designed homes will include amenities such as ceramic tile flooring and backsplash in the kitchen, ceiling fans in all bedrooms, a separate shower with garden tub in the master bath and landscaping. The homes are scheduled to be completed in July.
The Homebuyer Development Program provides deferred, forgivable loans to qualified applicants with down payment, closing cost, and mortgage buy-down assistance. To qualify for this program, applicants must meet HUD income guidelines, credit and policy guidelines, and participate in homebuyer education classes.
Those interested in applying for the Homebuyer Development Program can pick up an application from the Housing and Human Services Department at 2520 W. Irving Blvd., Suite 300, or download the application online. For more information, call (972) 721-4800.
