New Hotel Occupancy Tax Effective April 1

In November, Irving residents voted to approve a 2 percent local increase in the Hotel Occupancy Tax rate to finance the Irving Convention Center and Entertainment Venue Project, which will be located in the Las Colinas Urban Center.

City Council approved the increase in March, and the new 9 percent rate became effective April 1 after City Council approved the increase in March. Combining state and local taxes, hotel accommodations in Irving will be taxed at 15 percent, the same as Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington. The revenue source supports two of the city’s strategic goals by simultaneously cultivating strong, successful economic development and promoting excellence in Irving’s cultural, recreational and educational environments.
