Two new city facilities are being built to provide increased services to Irving residents. The West Irving Aquatic Center will offer families a state-of-the-art swimming facility, while Fire House No. 4 will provide increased safety. These are just two of several capital improvement projects in the works.
West Irving Aquatic Center
A new, state-of-the-art aquatic center will be built by the summer of 2010 for Irving residents to enjoy. The aquatic center will be located near the Georgia Farrow Recreation Center and within walking distance to future DART stations.

The West Irving Aquatic Center will offer more than 10,000 square feet of water attractions. Features will include four, 25-yard lap lanes with a wheelchair accessible entrance ramp, and unique amenities such as a rock climbing wall that extends 8 feet above the water. The center also will have lockers and concessions for the convenience of attendees, zero-depth entry, two water slides, an interactive playground and a shaded toddler pool. There will be numerous shaded areas available for picnics, parties and lounging. Construction is set to begin in July.
Fire House No. 4
A new Fire House No. 4 will be built on MacArthur Boulevard between Weathered Street and Storyglen Drive to provide residents with increased safety. Construction on the new facility—which will be LEED certified to meet strict environmental standards—is set to begin in September.

Designed to blend with the surrounding neighborhood, the two-story station will total more than 15,500 square feet and will accommodate up to 15 firefighters. The house also will include training capabilities for rescue practice. The new facility is scheduled to be completed by late 2010.
