Towing Policy Increases Safety, Protects Irving Motorists from Uninsured Drivers

To protect the interest of Irving motorists, vehicles operated within city limits must have sufficient insurance coverage as required by law. Motorists with a previous citation for operating a vehicle without insurance who fail to provide proof of insurance in the event of a routine traffic stop, accident or other officer-assisted encounter, risk having their vehicle towed.

Residents should have their driver’s license and automobile insurance policy card easily accessible and ready to present to law enforcement officials in case of a routine traffic stop or collision. Current policy cards stating the name of the insured or authorized driver(s), insured vehicle, insuring company, company phone number, policy number, and beginning and expiration date of coverage serve as adequate evidence of insurance.

If a motorist claims to have insurance, but lacks proof, Irving officers will make reasonable efforts to verify the vehicle’s insurance status. Vehicles impounded for violation of this policy will not be released from impound until fees have been paid and proof of current automobile insurance coverage is provided.
