Residents Reminded About Irrigation Guidelines

When temperatures drop below 35 degrees, residents are reminded to keep irrigation systems turned off to prevent icing of sidewalks and streets. In addition, rain/freeze sensors are required for all irrigation systems.

Operating irrigation systems during precipitation or freezing temperatures can result in a fine of up to $2,000. Those operating irrigation systems in Irving should also be mindful of the following additional guidelines.

It is a violation to:
• Allow a system to waste water because it is not properly maintained
• Irrigate during precipitation (rain, snow, etc.)
• Irrigate with a broken or missing sprinkler head
• Water areas such as sidewalks or streets

To avoid fines, irrigation system operators should perform regular system tests to ensure that the rain/freeze sensor is installed and operating effectively. For more information, call (972) 721-2281.
