King Observance: 'Letter from a Birmingham Jail'

The City of Irving will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. observance at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Carpenter Performance Hall, Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd.

This year's celebration marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." The 2013 event will feature a theatrical performance of the letters written by the eight clergy to Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the infamous response penned by Dr. King.

The event's goal is to:
• Feature the Letter from a Birmingham Jail in a theatrical format
• To promote literary awareness of theme content, language and writing style of "Letter from a Birmingham Jail."
