Holiday Celebration:
Each year, the City of Irving's Parks and Recreation Department and the Irving Public Library coordinate a Tree-Lighting Ceremony and a host of yuletide festivities to officially kick-off the holiday season.
Traditionally, citizens gather to participate in a city-wide countdown which leads into a holiday light presentation. Residents enjoy live entertainment, concessions, and youth activities during the event.
The event is free to the public. For more information, call (972) 721-2501.
One Act Play Tournament:
Each summer, young thespians enroll in drama classes at neighborhood recreation centers. In the drama courses, students are coached on their delivery and learn about the following: costume design, set design, and prop design. Upon completion of the class, each recreation center's drama class presents its class project, a short one-act play.
Each one-act play is featured in the Parks & Recreation One-Act Play Tournament held in July at the Irving Arts Center at 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. Recognition awards are presented to the best play, best actor and best actress. |
