2014 Comprehensive Plan
The City of Irving is beginning development of its 2014 Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan describes a community's vision for its future and charts the course that the community will follow to achieve that vision. The City of Irving's new plan will guide our community forward as it transitions from focusing on new development, to encouraging redevelopment and enhancing existing neighborhoods and commercial areas while ensuring an economically sustainable future where the infrastructure, housing, and service needs of future residents and property owners can be met without reliance upon outside funding sources. The plan will also guide Irving as it prepares to accommodate its share of future population and employment growth in the North Texas region, and to maintain Irving's position as the model for safe and beautiful neighborhoods, a vibrant economy, and exceptional recreational, cultural and educational opportunities.
The City of Irving is in the process of recruiting a top notch planning consultant team which will guide our community through the process of crafting a shared public vision for the future. This team will include experts in a variety of fields, and will actively solicit ideas, feedback and comments from the public in order to ensure that the vision the Comprehensive Plan promotes for the future is the one that best reflects the consensus of Irving's various stakeholders. A request for proposals from interested consulting firms was released in February 2014, and a contract will be awarded to the firm that City Council selects in June 2014. The expected completion date for the new Comprehensive Plan is May 2016.
