Safety Education and Crime Prevention Programs

Officers from the Community Services Section provide a multitude of safety education programs to school age children of the city. One of the most recognizable programs is Safety Town. A cooperative program supported by various Irving businesses and the Chamber of Commerce, this program is presented to every 1st Grade student in the I.I.S.D. and many other schools, such as private day care centers and parochial schools. Safety Education presentations also include: Officer Friendly, McGruff "The Crime Dog," and video presentations on topics such as bicycle safety, vandalism, drug abuse prevention, gangs, shoplifting/theft prevention, and Emergency 911 procedures. The Safety Patrol program at every elementary school campus is also a part of this program.

Presentations under this program include both crime prevention and safety education topics. Programs such as McGruff "The Crime Dog," and the Robotics Team (PC the Patrol Car and Safety Sam) are available to schools or other organizations. These presentations provide valuable crime prevention information to children, senior citizens, and businesses.
