Hunter Ferrell Municipal Solid Waste Landfill

Landfill Hours and Location:

Landfill hours are 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. every day. Vehicles arriving after 5:15 p.m. are admitted at the landfill’s discretion.

The Landfill is located at 220 W. Hunter Ferrell Road, east of the intersection of Macarthur Blvd. and Hunter Ferrell Road.

Fees/Charges:

Fees are determined by the vehicle that is used to transport waste to the landfill. There is a charge of $10 per ¼ ton for pickup trucks that are one ton and larger, and trailers that are nine feet or longer in length.

Residents will not be charged for household waste transported in passenger cars, station wagons, pickups with less than a one ton rating, or in trailers less than 9 feet in length.

All commercial entities must pay the fee listed above regardless of vehicle size.

An anti-litter fee will be charged if waste loads are not secured to prevent spillage.

If the weighing scales at the landfill are temporarily inoperable, patrons will be charged based on vehicle size and category, as outlined in Irving City Code, Sec. 33-19.

General Rules:

  • Only waste generated within the city of Irving is allowed.
  • Proof of residency, such as driver's license or water bill, is required upon entry.
  • Salvaging is not allowed.
  • No chemicals or hazardous materials can be disposed of at the landfill. Residents can also have these materials picked up on chemical and hazardous materials collection days.
  • Roofing materials are accepted from residents in vehicles as described under the fees/charges section. Residents with roofing materials must have a roofing permit with their name and address matching their driver's license.
  • Individuals are responsible for unloading their waste materials at the designated area. Individuals not unloading waste, especially children, should remain in their car.
  • Vehicles immobilized or left unattended will be towed at the owner's expense.

Items that are recyclable at the landfill:

The Irving Public Health and Environmental Services Department encourages residents to reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible.

Tires are recycled at the landfill. There is no charge to recycle five or less tires. To recycle more than five tires the fee is $1 per tire in addition to $10 per ¼ ton of the tires’ weight. Tires larger than 15 inches are not accepted.

Appliances, metal materials, and batteries are recycled at the landfill if separated from other waste. (The vehicle fees stated above still apply.)

Live Christmas trees are accepted for recycling as mulch. Mulched trees and yard brush are available year-round to residents at no charge.

Free Woodchips:

Free wood chips are available at Irving's Landfill.

Look for the "Free Wood Chips" container that is before the weigh station on the east side of landfill’s entrance road. Residents must load the material themselves and provide their own container!!!!
