Sanitation Services: Trash Pickup and Other Information

Please call the Sanitation Division at (972) 721-2232 for additional information or questions.

Trash Pickup:

  • Please set out trash for collection only on assigned collection days by 7 a.m. Do not set trash out earlier than 6 p.m. the evening the day before. (Ord. 5516).
     
  • Call 972.721.2232 to determine if your collection days are Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday, or refer Curbside Recycling Pickup maps.
     
  • Please put trash in 20 to 30 gallon capacity trash bags or two-ply, fifty pound wet strength craft paper. Trash bags can be purchased at the Customer Service Desk at the Civic Center for $4.39 per box of 50. Trash cans won’t be emptied by collection crews.
  • There is a 50 pound weight pound per bag.
     
  • Please place broken glass, needles, wire or other sharp objects in a sealed metal container, such as a coffee can, before placing in trash bags.
     
  • Please do not place dirt or rocks in trash bags.
     
  • Loose twigs, leaves, shingles, and other small debris must be set out in bags or small boxes for pickup. Brush pickup schedules vary by the season. Please call Sanitation 972.721.2232 to find your next pickup date.

  • Please set the following items out separately from household trash on collection day, and notify Sanitation at 972.721.2232.

  • Spoiled meat will be collected within 1 to 2 business days when Environmental Services Division is notified at 972.721.2232. If the meat is spoiled due to a freezer that lost power, you can leave all contents in the freezer, and Environmental Services will dispose of the entire freezer.

  • Please do not place brush or oversized waste for collection under utility wires or overhanging tree limbs, due to overhead and side room needed to operate. All brush, furniture and oversized waste must be placed at curbside for collection. These items will not be collected in alleys.

  • Please remove doors from any refrigerators being set out. Refrigerators will be removed within 1 to 2 business days when Environmental Services Division is notified at 972.721.2232.

  • Sec. 33-5 of the Irving City code states, "Rock, waste, scrap building materials or other trash resulting from construction or major remodeling, resulting from general cleanup of vacant or improved property shall not be removed by the City as regular service. The owner shall have such trash and debris removed at his expense." This provision applies to replacement of roofs, fences and remodeling of interiors.
     
  • Sec. 33-10 of the Irving City Code states, "It shall be the duty of each person in control or possession of any premise..., to place or cause to be place in the receptacles required...all garbage and trash which may accumulate upon the premises," (Ord. No. 845).
     
  • The larger metal trash containers seen at businesses are rented for their exclusive use. These should not be used without permission of the business.
