Preregister for a NonResident Card

Get a jump on obtaining a new library card by preregistering online. A benefit to preregistering is placing up to two items on hold, which can be picked up along with the new card if materials are ready. Preregistration does not allow access to ebooks or other digital materials.

After preregistering online, the user has 30 days to complete their registration by showing a valid photo ID and a separate and current address ID for verification at any Irving Library location. Users can also email scans/photos of the same information to circulation@cityofirving.org along with the temporary card number from the preregistration form (will begin with “PACREG”). The security of personal information emailed to the library cannot be guaranteed.

Determining Residency

Residency is determined by the address ID (PDF) given at the time of registering for a new card or renewing a card. The individual must reside in the City of Irving in order to be exempt from the nonresident card fees.

Renewing a NonResident Card

Nonresidents may renew an expired library card by visiting an Irving Library and presenting a valid photo ID and a separate and current address ID for verification. The annual nonresident card fee must be paid at that time. The library card must also be in good standing (no overdue fines or fees on the card). Nonresidents may also renew a card by emailing the same information plus a photo of the back of the library card to circulation@cityofirving.org. The security of personal information emailed to the library cannot be guaranteed.

Nonresidents may also opt to renew their cards through Online Chat

The Texshare Card

Nonresidents who wish to check out a limited number of items from an Irving Public Library may present a valid TexShare card from their home library. To obtain the free Irving Library’s TexShare Visitor card, users can visit the Irving library and present a current and valid TexShare Card from their home library, their valid photo ID, a separate proof of address, and their home library card. The TexShare Visitor card allows a 5-item checkout limit. An expired TexShare Visitor card that has been maintained in good standing (no lost items or charges) may be renewed by presenting the same items. TexShare cards may also be obtained and renewed through email. Please see the TexShare Card page for more details on the process.

TEACHER CARD

Nonresident educators and staff with Irving ISD may receive a free Irving Public Library Card for personal use. Those wishing to get this card must present a current Irving ISD staff badge and a photo ID with current address (see the list of acceptable forms of identification if ID or address listed on ID are not current). The Teacher card is good for one year and has a 50-item checkout limit. This card also allows the use of IPL online databases, ebooks, digital downloads and public computers. There is no nonresident fee for this card. See the Teacher Card page for full information on card privileges and how to sign up.
