Requests: Know Before You Go

Before you check the status of your hold items in your account, you may want to familiarize yourself with some terminology regarding our holds. It’s kind of like checking the status of a mail package with different words for every step of the process.

What Does it Mean? Common Holds terminology:

ACTIVE: When you place a hold, but no copies are available, it goes to Active status. From here you must wait until some other action is taken, such as an item is returned or an item on order is processed.

PENDING: When you place a hold and a copy is available, the status goes to Pending. The book won’t be ready until the staff pull it from the shelf or it arrives from another location. So keep an eye or ear out for the email or phone call from us that says it’s ready.

HELD: This means the item has entered the last phase of processing and will soon be on our Holds shelf for you.

CANCELLED/UNCLAIMED: This could be one of two things. The book was never picked up or our staff was authorized by someone with your card information to release the hold.
