Requests: Know Before You Go
A hold goes through several steps after it is requested before it is ready to be picked up at a library location. Below are definitions of the terminology used in the library's system which should help in understanding where an item is in the hold process.
What Does it Mean? Common Holds terminology:
REQUEST PLACED: When a hold is placed but no copies are available, it goes to Request Placed status. From here the status will change once the item is returned by another library user or a new item is finished being labeled and processed.
LOCATING: When a hold is placed and a copy is available the status goes to Locating. The book won’t be ready until staff have an opportunity to pull it from the shelf or it arrives from another location.
HELD: This means the item has entered the last phase of processing and will soon be on the Holds shelf. This is when a notification will be sent via email or phone for the item to be picked up at the requested location.
CANCELLED/UNCLAIMED: These statuses can appear when the item or items requested were not picked up within the seven day period, or staff members had permission to release the hold by someone with the requester's card information.
Please visit with a librarian during chat hours if there are any questions regarding holds or hold statuses.
