Become a CERT member, and learn how to help yourself, your family and neighbors in the event of a large-scale emergency or disaster.
The Office of Emergency Management hosts a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on a regular basis. In this training, CERT members will learn how to be self-sufficient for 72 hours following a major emergency or disaster.
CERT members are volunteers who others in the community will rely on to meet their immediate life-saving and life-sustaining needs. Team members will also learn how to provide critical support to professional first responders, assistance to disaster victims, and how to spontaneously organize volunteers at disaster sites.
The CERT Basic Training once a year on a regular basis.
The CERT class consists of a full two days (8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.). The topics that are covered include Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations, Search and Rescue, Disaster Psychology, CERT Organization and a Disaster Simulation.
The Basic Training is free and is offered to all people 18 and older who live and work within the City of Irving.
CERT Basic Training dates will be posted here when dates have been finalized.
