Innovation and Performance Office

The Innovation and Performance Office is dedicated to improving government efficiency and effectiveness through well thought out, collaborative approaches based on best practices and national standards that promote a higher level of service and enhance overall quality of life. The department offers the following scope of services for all departments.

TRANSLATE STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES INTO ACTIONS
  • Facilitate the development and tracking of strategic initiatives.
  • Identify areas of alignment with the strategic plan, comprehensive plan, and other key planning documents.
  • Support the internal and external reporting of progress toward achieving initiatives of strategic importance.
STRENGTHEN DATA MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
  • Assist with the creation of meaningful data sets.
  • Provide data-rich reports to assess operational and program effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to benchmark performance against national standards.
  • Facilitate the use of data to justify budget requests, allocate resources, and prioritize work.
FACILITATE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Work to understand a process through the use of various methodologies and approaches (process mapping, root cause analysis, current state evaluation, stakeholder analysis, etc.)
  • Analyze customer and department data to gain operational insights.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through data analytics, human-centered design, and other relevant approaches.
  • Design and conduct experiments to test possible solutions.
  • Foster a culture of innovation through creative dialogue, training, and grant funding. 
SUPPORT GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY 
  • Assist in creating customer-friendly data visualizations for presentations, reports, and other publications.
  • Conduct tactical data engagements to enhance the use of resident-centered data.
  • Enhance the availability of department data that is public in nature.
  • Facilitate data-sharing across the organization. 
FACILITATE CUSTOMER RESEARCH AND ENGAGEMENT
  • Identify the appropriate method or tool for gaining customer insights. 
  • Design, administer, and analyze survey results. 
  • Lead focus groups and other discussions to better understand customer perspectives.
  • Create engagement opportunities through civic academies, hackathons, and other effective approaches.
