The Irving Public Library is excited to present: A Universe of Stories! as our SRC 2019 theme. The goals of this community reading program are to promote a love of reading through engaging weekly events and to encourage reading through incentives and book giveaways. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Irving Public Library and the City of Irving. Readers of all ages are encouraged to participate at any Irving Public Library location from June 1 to July 31.
Pick up a paper reading log when you stop by your local Irving Public Library, or go virtual with an online reading log by visiting ReadSquared.
Children can read, or be read to, for 20 minutes a day for seven days at a time. Color in the reading log’s universe of stars for each day completed, then take the log to any Irving library starting June 7. Children’s prizes include coupons, coloring poster, two free books and a reading medal for completing the challenge.
Visit the Children's SRC page for rules.
Teens can earn prizes weekly by reading five hours per week. When all five circles are marked on the reading log, take it to the library for redemption. Reading logs and online prize redemption double as entries for an Apple iPad mini giveaway. Limit of one log or online entry every week.
Visit the Teen SRC page.
Hungry children are more likely to have social and behavioral issues and face a more significant learning deficiency in summer that sets them back when they return to school in the fall. Due to the generosity of CitySquare Food, children ages 1-18 will be provided with meals during Summer Reading Challenge. This program is free and no registration is required.
