Summer Reading Challenge 2022: oceans of possibilities
Dive into the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge (SRC): Oceans of Possibilities with live performances, crafts and events to beat the heat while enjoying plenty of great reads between June 1 and July 31. Babies, children, teens and adults are all invited to participate.
Kickoff Celebrations: Simultaneous SRC launch parties take place at 2:30 p.m., May 28 at the South Irving, West Irving and Valley Ranch library locations. The kickoffs will feature activities for kids as well as everything needed for all ages to sign up for this year’s reading program. Each of these celebrations will feature balloon artists and crafts. The events at Valley Ranch and West Irving Libraries will also include a trackless train, and South Irving Library will have an onsite ice cream truck
READSQUARED IS KEY
Go virtual with an online reading log by visiting ReadSquared. The online registration portal will be available soon.
Use the online service ReadSquared to register, track progress and engage in novel activities, such as book reviews, recommended reads and online games. Paper reading logs will also be available to pick up at any Irving Library location.
Programs for All Ages
Read and earn prizes! Prizes can be picked up at the South Irving Library, Valley Ranch Library or West Irving Library. Reading eligible to earn prizes concludes on July 31. All prizes must be picked up by Sunday, August 14. All prizes are subject to availability. Prize pick-up dates may change.
Babies, ages 0-2 years: Receive a prize pack for completing the entire reading log with baby. Prize pack includes a board book, stuffed animal fish, sand bucket, and reading certificate.
Kids, 3 years to grade 5: Read June 1-July 31. For kids, prizes include treasure chest surprises, a drawstring bag, free books and reading certificates. One prize per week. Pick up all remaining prizes earned through the eligibility period by August 14. One Grand Prize gift basket winner will be announced August 14.
Teens, Grades 6-12: can earn a variety of prizes by reading, participating in programs and being creative. Participants in the teen summer reading challenge will also earn entries into an End of Summer iPad Mini giveaway with each prize level completed, June 1 through July 31.
Adults: Adults can earn free books, tote bags, reading lights, journals and more for participating in this year’s reading challenge. Prizes can be picked up starting June 6, while supplies last. For every 5 books read, win a prize and be entered into a grand prize drawing.
Teens and adults will have crafts, DIY events, and book clubs to enjoy, while families can participate special puppet programs, animal demonstrations, storytimes, and more!
