Summer Reading Challenge
Babies, children, teens and adults can spark their creativity, explore library services and enjoy lots of books between June 1 and July 31 for the 2020 annual Summer Reading Challenge: Imagine Your Story.
READSQUARED IS KEY
Go virtual with an online reading log by visiting ReadSquared. The online registration portal is currently closed.
To create a safe and fun Summer Reading Challenge, a few changes were made to the program. Now, more than ever it is important to use our online service ReadSquared to register, track your progress and engage in novel activities, such as book reviews, recommended reads and online games. Those who register online can also skip the paper process required to redeem your prize pack
Prize pick-up runs aug. 1-15!
How Does Prize Pick Up Work:
Please go to your favorite IPL Express Point to pick up your SRC Prizes.
Curbside: You will be instructed to call the Curbside phone number (972) 721-2692 for assistance once you arrive. At this point you will receive further instructions. Then prizes will be delivered to the Curbside pick-up point on the south side of the building. Please have your phone handy.
Pick-Up Window: Drive up to the window. At this point staff will utilize a variety of methods, including paper menus, over the phone assistance while you wait in your car, and an outside prize pick-up point.
Methods will vary in order to provide a safe experience while maintaining social distancing during the process. Staff reserve the right to cut off SRC Prize service prior to closing time in order to clean and prepare the area for the next shift.
What Can I Win?
Let’s talk about those prizes! Instead of coming to the library every week to redeem prizes, this year prizes will be available as one prize pack to be picked up Aug. 1-15 at the South Irving Library, Valley Ranch Library or West Irving Library.
For kids, prizes include free books, a lanyard, brag tags, a pencil and color in-your-own bookmarks. Free books can be pre-selected by registering over ReadSquared. Each participant will also earn an entry to the Grand Prize drawing, a gift basket filled with signed books and other goodies, with each level he or she completes. Four kids will win!
Teens can earn a pencil pouch, pencil and a free book. The book can be pre-selected from a list of fantastic options by registering over ReadSquared. Participants in the teen summer reading challenge will also earn entries into an End of Summer iPad Mini giveaway with each prize level completed. The drawing will take place on August 17.
Adults can earn free books, pencil bags and custom coasters for participating in this year’s reading challenge. Two lucky adults will win a Kindle Fire in the end of summer grand prize drawing. Earn an entry with each level completed. The drawing will take place on August 17.
Prize Pick Up FAQ
Can I pick up prizes for family or a person who cannot make it to the library?
You can, as long as they have provided consent. There will be a lot of choices to make once you arrive. If you are not comfortable making those selections for others, you may want to bring them along. If you want them to provide you with some options prior to arrival, take a look at our SRC Prize Newsflash with lists out all the prize options for all age groups: SRC Reading Rewards
What if I selected my child's prizes already on ReadSquared?
Great work! You will just need to supply your SRC Prize attendant with your ReadSquared username, name or other info (upon request) to see your accounts and look up the prizes.
What are levels?
A level was completed every time you filled in 5 clouds on the paper log or earned 5 points on ReadSquared. While this year a child or teen needed to only complete 1 level in order to qualify for the entire prize pack and book(s), any levels they completed above and beyond count as entries into the Grand Prize Drawing in their age category. Adults earn a single prize for each level, up to 8 prizes. Adults can also receive up to 8 entries into the Kindle Fire Drawing depending on levels completed.
There are no levels for Baby SRC participants.
Can Adults browse the inventory to select their book prizes?
Adults will be provided with broad book categories to choose from (Fiction, Non-Fiction and Cookbooks). Staff will randomly select the prize from those categories. Adults who would like to select their own books may opt to take a book coupon, which is redeemable when the library reopens. At this time, we do not have a date for reopening and the participant must have their coupon to receive the book. The library will not supply replacements for lost or stolen coupons.
