Rainwater Harvesting

Rain Barrell

Typically, a rainwater harvesting system is composed of a 55-gallon drum, a vinyl hose, PVC couplings, a screen grate to keep debris and insects out and other off-the-shelf items.

A rain barrel is relatively simple and inexpensive item to construct, but it can provide a substantial savings to a homeowner's water utility bill.

The city of Irving offers a rainwater harvesting clinic once per year, usually in May. Class size is limited and a fee is required. Visit our Green Classes page to learn more and to register for any of Irving’s “green” educational classes.
