New Library Card

How to get a new library card

For a limited time, beginning March 17, the public can enjoy convenient and safer alternatives for obtaining a new library card with an extended 90-day expiration period and a 10-item check out limit. We encourage everyone to stay safe and do what works best for their personal situations until our buildings can reopen and people can enjoy all the wonderful books, movies, music, public internet and other services available to them.

Online Self Registration (Irving Residents only)

Irving residents may temporarily get a New card online without coming to the library by following these steps:

Please allow up to 48 hours for the card registration to be approved and processed, though we will try to approve these as quickly as possible. An email reply will be sent to confirm that the card is registered with the NEW card number. The card will then be mailed to the resident’s registered address. You may instead visit one of our libraries (excluding East Library and Learning Center) once the application is complete if you choose to pick up the card in-person.

New Card Preregistration

All members of the public interested in obtaining a new Irving Public Library card may preregister online for a new library card. The new card is free for Irving residents. Nonresidents will be asked to pay an annual fee of $40 for their card during the preregistration process. To complete the process, visit one of our service points at South Irving Library, Valley Ranch Library or West Irving Library and present an acceptable form of identification (please see list (PDF)).

An added benefit to preregistering is placing up to two items on hold, which can be picked up along with the new card. After preregistering online, you have 30 days to visit an Irving Library location to present acceptable forms of identification (please see list (PDF)) when picking up a new card.

See the Card Type page for information concerning card requirements and privileges.
