Summer Reading - Adults

This summer adults will have the companionship of great books and furry friends with the library's Tails and Tales-themed Reading Challenge! Play trivia, go exploring, and celebrate amazing stories. No matter how readers get their stories expect fantastic fun and rewards!

For every five books read, five activities completed, or five items donated to Irving Cares or Irving Animal Services at a library branch, earn a prize and be entered into a weekly drawing and Grand Prize giveaway.

Pick up a paper reading log by dropping by the library, or go digital with READSquared, the library's online reading log tracker. Reading logs are available to print and download at home. Click here to download the Adult reading log.

The Rules:

  1. Read or listen to five books, complete five activities or place five items in the donation bin at any Irving Library for Irving Cares or Irving Animal Services.
  2. Note the titles or activities on READSquared or the paper reading log.
  3. Prizes can be claimed starting June 14, while supplies last. Prize pick-up dates may change depending on library accessibility.  A total of up to 9 prizes can be claimed by completing all activities on the log or in READsquared. Program completion also qualifies the participant to be entered into the Grand Prize drawing.

Lend a Helping Paw

Help Irving residents and shelter animals in need by donating needed items at any Irving Library location during the Summer Reading Challenge June 1-July 31. Donate 5 items to Irving Cares or Irving Animal Services at an Irving branch library and receive 5 points in the Adult Summer Reading Challenge!

With 5 points, choose a prize of: a book, SRC tote, or a limited edition Kawaii Koloring book. With the kids out of school and the looming Texas heat, every donation can help a family’s summer become a bit more comfortable. Appreciated items are consisted of, but not limited to:

Irving Cares: Canned Fruit, Canned Meats – Tuna, Chicken, Salmon, Spam; Canned Meals – Chili, Stew, Chef Boyardee; Peanut Butter & Jelly, Any Soup; Box Meals – Skillet Dinners; Canned Vegetables; Toilet Paper, Soap/Body Wash Shampoo & Conditioner Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Razors, Shaving Cream, Deodorant, Feminine Products, Powdered Laundry Detergent

Irving Animal Campus: Dog toys - Large Kongs are great! Cat toys, Towels (all sizes), Blankets, Pillow cases, Puppy pads, Cat litter, Pet beds, Collars, Leashes - they love Weiss Walkies! Harnesses, AA and AAA batteries, Canned dog and cat food, Paper towels, Hand sanitizer
