What is OverDrive and the Libby app?

OverDrive and Libby is a two-in-one solution for Irving cardholders' reading needs. Check out the OverDrive collection of e-books, audiobooks and e-magazines directly on a computer with an internet connection. Mobile users can access the same great service using the Libby app.

Checkout limit: 5 items on the card at a time (includes Always Available items)
Always Available items: 3 ebooks and 3 audiobooks per month
Hold limit: 8 items at a time
Checkout period allowed: 7 day, 14 day, 21 day (Default checkout: 21 days)

libby appThe Libby app from OverDrive has many incredibly useful features that make accessing Irving Public Library's digital catalogue of e-books and audiobooks more convenient. Users can adjust an ebook’s font size, book layout, and lighting. The audiobook player also gives readers the ability to control playback speed and even set a sleep timer. Other notable features include the ability to add multiple library cards, place or even delay holds, and much more.

With Libby by OverDrive, it only takes a few taps to find, borrow, and enjoy e-books. All Irving Public Library cardholders need to to get started is their 14 digit library card number and PIN. This service is compatible with all major computers and devices, iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets and Chromebook™.   2. Which collection to choose first?

    If you're not sure which Digital Download collection to use, we recommend searching the library's catalog for your favorite authors and subjects to identify which collection will have what you want.  

    After searching for a favorite topic, on the search results page you can limit the list to items from our Digital Download collections by selecting "Electronic Resources" in the left column under the heading Type of Material. Browse through this new filtered list and look for which Digital Download collection appears most frequently.
