alternative service: tablet checkout stations!
For added convenience, the South Irving and West Irving libraries now offer the ability to check out tablet devices.* These are self-service stations which do not take appointments in advance. *Tablets must be used inside the library only, and should not be left unattended. As soon as the user is done using the tablet, he or she must immediately return the item back to the kiosk.
Tablets have been outfitted to offer many of the same services as the library’s public computers. Users will find apps for e-books, movie and music services, social media, video conferencing and word processing/office products. Users can send documents to the library’s wireless printing service.
Tablets will only work inside the library. Please do not leave a checked out tablet unattended. All personal information on the device will be cleared upon the tablet’s return to the docking station.
The library also expects to use the tablets as virtual hubs for attending future workforce trainings and webinars for new parents. This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant #LS-246561-OLS-20) (2021).
