Kevin Meyer #1322
My name is Kevin Meyer, and I am from Livermore, CA. I have 5 years of law enforcement experience as a police officer in CA. In January of 2020, my wife and I and our two young children moved to McKinney, TX. Shortly after moving, I started working for Irving PD. Since joining IPD, everyone from the department has been extremely welcoming and helpful in getting me up to speed with IPD policies and procedures. IPD has a lot of lateral officers from all over the country, and they all have helped me learn how to navigate the department. While I took a pay cut coming from CA to TX, my quality of life for myself and my family rose exponentially. Texas provides so many opportunities for families to thrive - lower cost of living, affordable housing, no state income tax, excellent schools, and communities that embrace and appreciate law enforcement. One of the reasons I chose IPD is because they are a Civil Service agency, which affords the employee more protection than an “at will” agency. With their Civil Service status, solid benefits package, higher pay, and 2:1 retirement match, IPD was clearly one of the top agencies in the DFW area. When speaking with employees from other police departments in the area, IPD always carried a strong reputation for good officers who do good police work. IPD and Texas have exceeded my expectations, and there has not been a minute where my wife and I have second-guessed our decision to relocate our family.
