The purpose of the Inspections Department is to protect the life and safety of Irving residents, owners, tenants, and visitors by promoting standard building practices through the adoption and enforcement of the International Codes and by verifying local code and ordinance compliance. 

The Building Inspections division issues building and related permits and inspects both new construction and remodeled structures for commercial and residential development.

The Health Inspections division is responsible for enforcing all health codes related to food establishments, childcare facilities, nursing homes, and smoking.
