Financial and housing counseling assistance is available to first-time homebuyers. Financial assistance may be provided in the form of a zero percent interest, deferred forgivable loan. These funds can be applied to downpayment and closing costs for the purchase of a home within the City of Irving. Applicants also must meet HUD Income Guidelines based on family size.
Please note, this program orientation is not a Homebuyer Education Course that gives you a certificate upon completion.
how to get started
First-time homebuyers wanting to participate in the City of Irving’s program for Down Payment Assistance must complete the Down Payment Assistance Orientation Session. See the video posted to this page.
This video will provide you with all the information and directions needed to complete the application, and provide all necessary documentation that is required for the City of Irving’s program. The video can be viewed multiple times to better understand the program.
A web address at the end of the orientation video provides information for downloading an application, the assistance policies, and other detailed information to apply correctly and successfully.
Once the orientation session is completed, fill out the Orientation Acknowledgement Form to receive credit for attending. Ensure this form is filled out before setting up an appointment to submit an application.
Applicants must schedule an in-person appointment to submit a program application. Call (972) 721-4800, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday to schedule an appointment to turn in an application.
A member of the Community Developement staff will review the application and supporting documentation before it can be accepted.
