Civil Service Testing Information

Firefighters

Those interested in becoming a firefighter for the City of Irving must register to take an entrance examination. The Fire Department entrance exam is usually given once a year. Those who wish to register may do so online until the registration deadline. Approximately four weeks before the exam is to be given, registrants will be sent a letter containing information about the exam date, time and place. Applicants must then sign and return a copy of this letter to be eligible to take the exam.

Applicants who pass the exam will be placed on an eligibility list ranked by test score. If all conditions are met to become a firefighter with the City of Irving, positions are offered as vacancies arise. The eligibility list remains in effect for one year. Those wishing to be considered after the list expires must again register and take the next entrance examination.
