Author Visit with Marjorie Herrera Lewis at Friends Annual Meeting

Saturday, May 18, 2019

Following the Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Irving Public Library, enjoy refreshments and our guest speaker, Marjorie Herrera Lewis, author of When the Men Were Gone. Lewis’s historical novel debut is based on the true story of Tylene Wilson, a woman in 1940's Texas who, in spite of extreme opposition, became a female football coach in order to keep her students from heading off to war. Book signing and book sales follow the author talk. “Sublimely ties together the drama of high school football, gender politics, and the impact of war on a small town in Texas.” – Sports Illustrated.
