LGBTQ Pride Month
Wednesday, June 1, 2022
June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, established to recognize the impact that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on the world. LGBT Pride Month commemorates the anniversary of the June 28, 1969, Stonewall riot in New York City, the incident that initiated the modern gay rights movement in the United States.
LGBT groups celebrate this special time with pride parades, picnics, parties, memorials for those lost to hate crimes and HIV/AIDS, and other group gatherings.
