City leadership is working to balance the desires of residents with the wellness of the solid waste collection crew members, and as a result, developed a plan to go back to twice per week manual trash collection while keeping three-member teams on each trash truck to accommodate the heavy lifting required to throw trash.
Starting on Monday, Dec. 4, manual trash collection will be performed twice per week and recycling, brush and bulky materials will be collected once per week. Standardizing the collection model for solid waste remains the goal, and in the coming months, the city will be finalizing ordinance amendments to accommodate the twice-per-week model.
Going from once-per-week trash collection back to twice-per-week trash collection requires hiring an additional 21 solid waste collection employees, and a rate increase is needed to fund those additional employees, as well as increased wages for collection team members.
