Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne, City Manager Chris Hillman and other city leaders officially broke ground on the Westin Irving Convention Center Hotel at Las Colinas on March 27. Construction is now underway on the $113 million headquarters hotel. It is the final piece of a three-part visitor district that includes the 275,000-square-foot convention center and the Irving Music Factory.
The 12-story Westin hotel will feature 350 guest rooms and 16,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 10,000-square-foot ballroom. An 840-space parking garage will sit adjacent to the hotel.
“This is the right agreement at the right time with the right players,” Van Duyne said. “The hotel will help fuel the growth of our convention business, while simultaneously serve as a tremendous addition to our ever-evolving city.”
The hotel will further ensure the success of the Irving Convention Center, already averaging 305 events per year.
“I know we have worked very diligently to ensure this property meets the standards in beauty, functionality and attraction we held for the convention center itself. We have definitely met that goal,” said Hillman.
The hotel is expected to open in winter 2018.
