A four-lane signature bridge designed for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic is part of the State Highway (SH) 114 final build-out. City officials have been working on plans with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) for years to bring improvements to the area in anticipation of future development for the city-owned 78-acre former stadium site. This project is being expedited in anticipation of development that will allow access to the site and areas north of SH 114. It will replace two bridges that were removed by TxDOT in 2014. Other components include pedestrian-friendly covered walkways with a signature lighting system to illuminate the bridge at night.
No general fund monies are being used for the construction of this bridge. Instead, the city’s contribution is available in the Texas Stadium Venue Project Fund, a dedicated fund restricted to the former stadium site venue and its related infrastructure.
Bridge construction is anticipated to begin in the fall, and work is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019.
