September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and with the theme “We Still Believe in Libraries,” Irving Library wants residents to discover the perks of membership. Irving Public Library strives to be the center of community learning and engagement. At any given moment an Irving resident is only three miles from public libraries. New technology, exceptional events, modern spaces for meetings and studying are huge draws, but being a library card holder unlocks the special privilege of access to a vast collection of materials in print, audio, visual and electronic formats for free. Anyone who still believes in libraries as a life-transforming force, but has not visited in a while is encouraged to visit and sign up or renew their membership. See the good that is happening within the walls of the city’s four neighborhood locations!
Keep an eye on the calendar for outreach library card sign-up events featuring a new purple card featuring the “We Still Believe in Libraries” design while supplies last. The first time an Irving resident signs up for an Irving library card, it is free. Replacement cards are $2. We have a library card to fit every kind of customer. To obtain a full access card you must be at least 16 years of age and living in Irving, bring ID or documents from the following list of acceptable forms of identification. Children under the age of 16 may obtain a card upon application by a parent or legal guardian with a card in good standing. Student cards are offered if you attend middle or high school, a college, university or technical school in Irving and solely want to check out digital download materials and use library computers. The Irving Public Library makes available a Homebound Card for those who are unable to come to a library as a result of physical impairment. Not an Irving resident, but still want to take advantage of all the Irving Public Library has to offer? Visit cityofirving.org/1841/Card-Types to see which of our other cards is applicable to you.
