Saturday, September 22, we will be having a Hispanic Heritage Celebration at the East Branch Library, 440 S. Nursery Road! Cuban-American Author Carmen Agra Deedy will be giving a special presentation followed by Cuban music and pastries.
Saturday, September 29, the festivities continue with a Fiesta at the South Irving Library, 601 Schulze Drive! We will be showing the Oscar winning film, CoCo (PG) and we will be providing snacks, crafts and face painting for the entire family to enjoy.
Want to celebrate with us without leaving the comfort of your home? The Irving Public Library systems offers Kanopy, a free movie, documentary and children’s Storytime service for anyone with a library card. Kanopy’s motto is "thoughtful entertainment" - seeking to provide library patrons with access to films of unique social and cultural value; films that are often difficult or impossible to access elsewhere. Here’s what you can watch today:
Los Punks: We Are All We Have
From the producers of DOGTOWN and Z-BOYS AND BONES BRIGADE: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY comes a look at an expressive, explosive world that is known about but almost never entered by outsiders. The film, directed by renowned photographer Angela Boatwright, explores the young, mostly Hispanic, Punk scene in L.A. and finds an undeniably gritty, yet creative environment.
Three grown sisters, Maribel, Leticia and Carmen try to cope and live with the fact that their father Martin, a veteran chef, is slowly losing his sense of taste. Martin has one simple rule: be at home for Sunday dinner and attendance is both mandatory and non-negotiable. A rift in the family develops when the sisters develop relationships and an obnoxious woman sets her sights on Martin's affections.
