Hands-Only CPR

Hands-Only CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an "out-of-hospital" setting. Hands-Only CPR, performed by a bystander on teens and adults has been shown to be as effective as "conventional" CPR in emergencies that occur at home, work or in public.

There are only two steps to remember when performing Hands-Only CPR:

  1. Call 911 (or send someone to do that).
  2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

The Irving Fire Department has teamed up with the American Heart Association (AHA) and 7-Eleven to provide demonstrations to the community with CPR Anytime Kits.
