At the Irving Public Library we are eagerly anticipating the premiere of Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’ book-to-movie adaptation. Young adult literature fans who regularly attend author events at the South Irving Library are familiar with author of Dumplin’ Julie Murphy. We cannot wait to see Willowdean tackle the status quo. A small Texas town, a beauty pageant with contestants of all body types, and Dolly Parton ballads, it is sure to be a film we’ll want to watch over and over.
The film has a star-studded cast featuring Friends actress, Jennifer Aniston, and original music by the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton. Danielle Macdonald, of Patti Cake$, stars as our leading lady, Willowdean (AKA Dumplin’) Dickson. The film is directed by Anne Fletcher, known for directing several iconic 2000’s rom-coms such as The Proposal, 27 Dresses, and Step Up. Watch the trailer and don’t forget to watch the movie when it premieres on Netflix and select theatres on December 7.
Don’t forget to read the book if you haven’t done so yet. New fans of Julie Murphy are in luck because you have the pleasure of reading the spinoff sequel, Puddin’, right away, no waiting time required (assuming there isn’t a long holds list of course). Check out a copy of Dumplin’ with your Irving Library Card. The ebook and e-audiobook are also available on Hoopla and Axis 360.
