Imagine an open air, paved plaza showcasing art exhibits in the heart of Irving’s downtown Heritage District. Once completed, the public plaza will bring new life to downtown Irving, highlighting its history while welcoming a new era.
The proposed plan includes seat walls that define a curved pathway, as well as tables, seating, lighting and shade trees. The plaza’s masonry walls will feature rotating art exhibits. Improved storm drainage will be installed behind the property.
This concept will become reality in the upcoming year, as work on the Main Street Plaza Project, 127 S. Main St., begins Dec. 10. Completion is expected in summer 2019, weather permitting. Downtown visitors and businesses can expect to see the work in progress 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily, Monday through Friday.
Downtown visitors should avoid the marked construction zones during this time. The three parking spaces and sidewalk directly in front of the property will be closed during construction. The parking lot adjacent to the alley will house a construction staging area.
Street closures are not anticipated but could occur if necessary. Traffic delays are possible around the work site with more construction vehicles. For more information, contact City of Irving Economic Development Department at (972) 721-4786.
