Has Your Vehicle's Airbag Been Recalled?

Overhead shot of traffic on State Highway 183 in Irving at night.

The Irving Mayor and City Council have proclaimed the month of May as Airbag Recall Repair Month.

At least 1.9 million vehicles in Texas have recalled airbags that have not been repaired, putting drivers and passengers at risk of death. The Irving Police Department urges all Irving residents to become aware of the inherent danger of unrepaired airbags.

Owners can check their vehicles' recall status at CheckToProtect.org. Many drivers are unaware their vehicles have a safety recall, which can be repaired free of charge at authorized dealers.

Irving Police officers use ChecktoProtect.org as a public service, in conjunction with the department's TxDOT Traffic Safety STEP Grant, and this year they have made more than 4,000 inquiries for recall information during traffic stops. At the conclusion of a traffic stop, motorists are given notice of the possibility of an outstanding recall on the vehicle they are driving. Airbag recalls are just one of the inquiries made during a stop.
