Many of our favorite library events and programs would not be possible without the support from the Friends of the Irving Public Library. From summer reading challenges to STEM programs for kids to author events for teens and adults, the Friends are always contributing behind the scenes. This includes the North Texas Teen Book Festival with an attendance of over 14,000 in 2019, 80% of which were teens, making it the largest literary festival in North Texas.
The North Texas Teen Book Festival is a day to celebrate teen readers. Staff and volunteers are always amazed to see school buses drop off loads of students who are so excited to spend their day celebrating YA and Middle Grade literature that they wake up at the crack of dawn to do so. These tweens and teens are ready to ask their burning questions about their favorite books, meet their favorite authors, buy some swag and most importantly, discover new favorites at author panels and publisher events throughout the day. One of the best parts of the festival is the Speed Date with a Book event where teens are pitched books by librarian match-makers and they get to take one free book home. For many teens this is sometimes the only book they get the entire day.
This year the Friends will dedicate all funds raised during North Texas Giving Day to help support the 2020 North Texas Teen Book Festival. The Friends of the Irving Public Library are big supporters of NTTBF, they help get the word out about the festival and tirelessly run the shops all day with the help of 40 volunteers. If you’ve ever purchased NTTBF T-shirts at the festival then chances are you’ve met a member of the Friends of the Irving Public Library.

North Texas Giving Day (NTGD) officially takes place on Sept. 19, but donors can access the website now and begin making pledges. You will not be charged until the official day of Sept. 19. After making your pledge, you will receive an email confirming the donation has been scheduled. Tax receipts will go out on Sept. 19, after donations are complete.
Every gift will go further thanks to bonus funds and prizes being distributed by the Communities Foundation of Texas. The transaction must be completed online to qualify, although the Friends will take donations in the form of cash and checks too. To help make the donation stretch further, you can choose to roll the cost of your credit card processing fee into your gift. If you select yes, 4.99% will be added to your total. Your entire contribution is tax deductible, including the processing fee!
