Attention, aspiring authors - writing your own 50,000-word novel may become a reality by Dec. 1! During National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November, you write a number of words each day, and by the end of the month, you've got your book draft.
NaNoWriMo’s fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to authorship has grown massively since its inception in 1999. Meet with fellow writers throughout the month for support and feedback at library-sponsored write-in events.
Those who complete their novels and upload them to the website by the deadline will be featured on NaNoWriMo’s Winner’s Page and receive handsome certificates and web badges. From there, the possibilities are endless. Over 250 novels written during National Novel Writing Month have been released by traditional publishing houses, including Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Marissa Meyer’s Cinder and Julie Murphy’s Side Effects May Vary. Hundreds of other works have found homes at smaller presses. Many more have been self-published, and others have been printed in novelists’ native languages.
