Water Safety

***According to Safe Kids USA, among preventable injuries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years old.***

The Irving Fire Department asks everyone to please keep the following WATER SAFETY tips in mind this summer:

  • Children should always swim under the supervision of an adult.
  • Never leave a child alone when near a body of water--even it if is less than a few inches.
  • Always stay within an arm’s reach of your child when he or she is in or near the bathtub, pools, spas or buckets.
  • Use fences and other barriers to keep kids away from pools when you are not around.
  • Learn infant and child CPR, and always have a phone near the pool for emergency use.
  • Teach kids water safety rules too.
