Opened in April 2011, West Irving Library, 4444 W. Rochelle Road, serves thousands of patrons each year with reading materials, research assistance and other programming. The 10-year-old LEED Gold-certified facility gets its fair share of use, and that will require attention to its maintenance needs over the next few months.
Beginning in early 2021, the Capital Improvement Program staff will be replacing the concrete slab and sidewalks at the building’s main entry. After concrete removal, workers will upgrade the drainage system to help prevent shifting soil — and thus, shifting concrete — in the future. In addition, piers will be sunk into the bedrock below to stabilize the structural slab.
As a result, the West Library main entry will be closed. A temporary entry will be provided at the north side of building, and the book drop and curbside services will continue to function as normal. Patrons are advised to avoid the main entry area during the work and to follow directional signs to the temporary entrance.
